Hi blog!

Here is a compilation of 60s Cambodian rock or ‘Khmer rock’.

I heard a documentary on radio 4 about it a few months ago, but just found this. There is some amazing stuff on here.

In the Vietnam War American radio broadcasts of western rock and roll drifted on the airwaves over the border into Cambodia. They didn’t speak English but were inspired to make their own versions. The result is an awesome mix of surfy garagey stuff with an Asian sound.

The tragic part is that the musicians were nearly all wiped out under Pol Pot.

Maybe time to get this blog rolling again? This album is one of my favourites. Its all the music from Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley. While it is a bit of a novelty, I'm not just being ironic. It really is wonderful. Every song sketches a charming portrait, while Freddie Phillips' instrumentation is delightfully imaginative, all little clicks, pops and bangs with really sublime guitar playing. I love it, it makes me feel glowy inside like the Person Pitch does. I've had it a while and it still knocks me out. Perhaps I'm losing my mind.

Here is some stuff by James [insert one of various surnames]. In teh late seventies he made kind of disco Beefheart pissed off stooges era iggy funk jazz punk squaaallll. Its all very cerebral.
Following discussion with some fellow bloggers, here are some albums to help fill the gaps in YOUR collection. Also included is 'No New York' which is a pretty genre defining no wave compliation that has some early Contortions songs on which i think i like more than the ones on the real albums. 'Dish it Out' makes me want to punch things. 'Flip Your Face' makes me want to flip my face and 'I Can't Stand Myself' is pretty ace. It also has a bunch of other songs which hurt when you listen to them. Which is nice sometimes.

Juno is a film out soon. it has michael cera in it being funny and it has Kimya dawson doing a lot of the sounds. The soundtrack also features the kinks buddy holly the velvet underground belle and sebastian etc etc etc etc. theres also a performance by the two main characters of the moldy peaches 'anyone else but you'.

This song is a b-side to "After Last Night" released on Reprise records in 1962, by a group called 'The Chiffons' from California.

Apprently having no connection to the more famous Chiffons who had a number one hit with 'He So Fine'. Reissue LP's even include the other groups songs, but with pictures of the
New York Chiffons.
